It looks like the 2017 season will end with a whimper, not a bang. Mercedes locked out the front row and the front row is where eight of the nine races here have been won from. It isn’t a track which allows for great racing and a lot of cars tend to finish in the position where they started from or thereabouts. There is nobody who is out of position on the grid, the big three fill the top six and will do so at the end if they can stay reliable and avoid accidents.
Hamilton has already won the title, Mercedes the constructor’s title and the only way to put a cherry on the top would be if Bottas could beat Vettel to 2nd place in the drivers’ championship. That is largely outside their control. Bottas would need to win and Vettel to finish 9th or worse. Bottas is on pole so it could be that Mercedes ask Hamilton to let Bottas hold that position and hope that something happens to Vettel. If something did happen, like an accident at the start, not unheard of, or mechanical woes then Mercedes may well tell Hamilton to support Bottas. If not I suspect Hamilton will want the win.
The big three teams had very similar long run pace in FP2 so the opening lap will be crucial for the likes of Ricciardo who won’t have the power to attack on the long straight even with DRS. He needs to make up a position on the opening lap or he will be stuck behind the cars in front. If Vettel is to win, he needs a super start and the Ferrari has been pretty good in that department recently, like Brazil where Vettel nicked 1st place from Bottas at the first corner. There is a short sprit into the first 90 degree corner here followed by a few fast sweeps and a potential overtaking place into the 5th corner. Ricciardo is fantastic at out braking opponent’s so he may well have a go but it can be dusty off line so it is a high risk strategy.
Force India aren’t best of the rest again in 8th and 9th as Hulkenberg pipped them to 7th place. Hulkenberg has only scored a single point from his last seven races which included four DNF’s so Renault will be sweating over the five points they need to pick up the extra $6.5 million in prize money for coming 6th.
They are helped by the fact that Toro Rosso has been every bit as unreliable as Renault themselves and when its Renault providing their direct rivals their power units which keep failing…fingers will be pointed.
Hulkenberg is the driver with the most pressure on his shoulders. If he can stay where he starts, Renault gets the 6th place, drop back to one place and they need Sainz to make it into the points to make up the difference. Hulkenberg has finished in the top seven here for the last three years, not in a Renault of course, so he can handle the track but will it stay reliable? And if it does can he keep the two Mercedes powered Force India’s behind him?
The Renault powered cars are giving away up to 10kph on the long straight and it’s hard to see how Hulkenberg can repel two more powerful cars down one of the longest straights in F1, especially when the DRS comes into play. Reliability worries and a relative lack of power make Hulkenberg vulnerable and if Renault turn up the power unit….that puts more stress into a unit that is far from reliable.
Perez starts 8th, team mate Ocon 9th. The two have been close all year but it’s Ocon who has been the stronger in the second half of the season. Perez has been faster in all the sessions so far for Force India (Ocon sat out FP1) so choosing which Force India driver will come out on top isn’t easy. Perez has the grid advantage and on this track that is worth something.
Ocon in my opinion is the better driver and he was unlucky to be hampered by Bottas in qualifying. Ocon believes he and the car had the pace to be 7th. There is a group bet with the two Renault’s and two Force India’s. Sainz is starting 12th so is unlikely to beat all three of his opposition ahead of him. With major doubts about Renaults reliability and hindered by a lack of straight line speed, this group starts to look more like a match bet between the two Force India’s. Ocon gets the nod.
2 points Ocon to win his group @ 3.50 with Betvictor
The driver who has made up the most places at the start of the races is Keven Magnussen in the Haas. He starts in 14th place and if he can make up a couple of places he would be within sniffing distance of a points finish but he may still need some attrition ahead of him to land the 4.00 for a top ten finish. On a track that makes it hard to make up places he is probably just too far back to make the bet.
We have already backed Vettel to win and the two McLarens to finish in the top 10. Vettel starts a disappointing 3rd. The Ferrari has similar long run pace to the Mercedes so with a good start and good strategy he is still in with a chance. However with the Pirelli tyres being too durable on this surface, it is very likely to be a comfortable one stop race so there is a limit to what strategy can be brought to bear to move him up.
The McLarens just got out boosted in qualifying but 11th is better for Alonso than a facile 10th. At least now he gets a brand new set of tyres to start the race on, and the choice of compound. How they cope on the long straight will be the key to Alonso’s race. At least there is no one especially fast behind him so it will be fascinating to see how he goes.
Vandoorne is a little further back and starts 13th. Making it to the top 10 from there will require a good start and some good luck but he likes the track so you never know.
Hopefully we can get some sort of result to end a season which has brought mixed results. This will be the last race before the rather hideous ‘Halo’ will be fitted to next year’s cars. Ugly they will be but with McLaren finally getting an engine next season, Renault ramping up their efforts and a Red Bull ready to fight for wins from day one, there is a good chance that next year will not just be about Lewis Hamilton and his Mercedes boost button. |

Järgmise aasta masinad tulevad visuaalselt nii eemaletõukavad, et Lauda arvas parem on sellisest monstrumist eemale hoida. Lõpuks jõuavad ikkagi kinnise kokpiti juurde välja.
See vana F1 logo olli sellesmõttes parem, et täht F ja nr 1 olid omavahel geniaalselt visuaalselt seotud uus on pigem selline meh võib olla ükskõik mille või kelle logo.

Ferrari to lose Santander sponsorship – report

Ferrari are poised to lose a major sponsor in Santander at the end of 2017, according to reports in Spain.
According to El Confidencial, the Spanish banking group has declined a proposed new deal from the Scuderia worth £35million and are set to end their major sponsorship after seven years.
Santander became partners with Ferrari when Fernando Alonso joined the team in 2010 and continued their relationship after the Spaniard left for McLaren in 2014.
But Santander has now changed hands from Formula 1 fan Emilio Botin to his daughter, Ana, and she has reportedly decided not to sign a new major deal.
While Ferrari should have no issues finding a new major deal, there is financial pressure on the Scuderia as Liberty try to level up the playing field by sharing the prize pot and scrapping the £100m bonus that the Prancing Horse get for being in Formula 1.
There is a possibility that Santander could stay on as a secondary sponsor, but at a fraction of the initial £35million deal put on the table.

Tundub, et Kubica diil on päris kindel - testimisel vilkus Kubica auto taga punane tuli, mis tähendab, et tal on superlitsents olemas. Ilma superlitsensita vilguks tal roheline tuli, nii nagu Hungaroringi testil.

On siis rehvidel nii suur vahe, et Stroll oli ka lausa 1.7s kiirem?
Tundub kahtlane see Kubica teema minu jaoks, parema meelega tahaks näha et näiteks di Resta saaks uue korraliku võimaluse või näiteks Wehrlein lõpuks punktivõimelisse tiimi.
Lisaks Haasis on sellest Grosjeani vingatsist ka kopp päris ees, aga tal vist contract järgmiseks aastaks ka olemas?
